Sandy Point is one of my favorite off-the-beaten-track spots in the mid-coast area. When I was a child US Rt. 1 dipped down to the valley of Sandy Point Village at the mouth of the Penobscot River, but in the interest of higher speed travel Rt. 1 now by-passes the village entirely. This sleepy group of homes is actually part of Stockton Springs and up until a few years ago had the Sandy Point Post Office in the home of the Postmistress.

The State of Maine manages a public sandy beach about one thousand feet long about 2 miles from this property, popular for frisbee games and joggers with their dogs.

There is just one privately accessed shorefront area of cottages in Sandy Point. Drive across a wooden vehicle bridge and past the field of wild lupines and here you are at this slice of heaven! The seasonal cottage sited across the lane from the waterfront was originally built around 1950. In 1994 it was totally renovated bringing design modifications and a propane Monitor heating unit that extends the enjoyment of the property to the shoulder seasons. There is a deeded walking path through the lupine field and down the steps to the unusual sandy beach (unusual because most shorefront in Maine is rocky). The most striking features of the cottage are the open beams, the cathedral ceiling, the sky lights and the Palladian window in the living/dining area. There are two bedrooms with room to sleep 5 or 6 comfortably and most of the furnishings, linens, dishes and books will be sold with the property at no additional cost. You can either bring your suitcase and enjoy the property yourself or advertise on line and rent it to vacationers by the week.
