Gracious Lake St. George Home
This well-built, year round home is situated on 2.5 acres near the end
of a town-maintained gravel access road and has about 250’ of frontage
on the easterly shores of Lake St. George in Liberty. (Read
more about Liberty on this website, ) Spring-fed Lake St. George is
one of Maine’s cleanest lakes where Atlantic salmon, Largemouth Bass and
Brook Trout are copious in the cool waters. The lake has a jet ski ban
and area of over 1,000 acres dotted with small islands, many uninhabited
and ready to explore. Convenient to the coastal towns of Camden and Belfast
and just a half hour off Rt. 95, Liberty is a desirable place to call
home. This 7 room home has an unobstructed view of the water and a gently
sloping lawn that extends to the water’s edge. No long stairways or balancing
act on the shore rocks to dip your feet into the refreshing water here!
Listen to the loons in the distance and actually see the fish swimming
when you go for your morning paddle or your mid-day swim. The home is
ideal for entertaining with a stone patio under a pergola, a three season
enclosed porch, two living rooms and a barbeque pit near the water. There
is a huge stone fireplace and a cozy enamel wood stove for chilly summer
evenings and winter warmth and the property is heated with locally available
bio-heat fuel. With 2,600 sq.ft. of living space the home consists of
3 bedrooms and 2 full baths which includes a master bedroom suite. The
bonus here is the two-car garage with a second level with a full floor
which could be a bunk room for the grandkids in addition to lots of storage
space. $597,000.

The Neck at Lake St. George
Nearly at the end of a private camp road, this year round gem offers
comfortable living on a half acre parcel with 100 feet of frontage on
Lake St. George, one of Maine’s cleanest lakes. The home itself, built
in 1993, has central air conditioning for summer and a wood stove and
Monitor for winter. There is also solar gain from the windows on the lake
side of the building. Granite counter-tops in the kitchen, a stackable
washer and dryer, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths provide the comforts of a small,
suburban home (1,200 sq.ft.), but then, there is the huge garage. Built
on a slab, the garage accommodates two cars and a boat on the first level.
The full second floor is currently walk-in closets, workshop, but could
become guest rooms or a bunk room. The third floor is additional storage
and substitutes for a cellar and attic (which the house does not have).
The house has an upper balcony, a wrap-around deck in the middle and a
lower deck and lots of steps from the decks to the waterfront and aluminum
dock $435,000.

Sheepscot Lake Year-round Home
Located on a lot just shy of an acre in size and nearly at the end of
a Camp Owners' Association (private) road along the shore of Sheepscot
Lake is this inviting home. Sheepscot Lake is located halfway between
Belfast (on the coast) and Augusta (on Rt. 95) in the town of Palermo
(pop. 1,200). It is a lake of over 1,000 acres and depths are generally
between 30 and 200 feet. The home was built in 2002 on a full, poured
concrete foundation and has a private well and private septic. There are
3 bedrooms and 2 and a half baths, including a master bedroom and bath
on the first level. The wide deck faces the waterfront and a path from
the front door leads through a wooded area to the swimming and boating
dock. There is hot water baseboard heat, but the additional wood stove
makes a cozy focal point in the winter months for gatherings; the deck,
dock and open floor plan are perfect for summer entertaining. This one
can be viewed year round, so come to Maine anytime and we can go see it
together! $495,000.

The OTHER Toddy Pond
The best known string of three ponds in the Hancock County towns of Orland
and Surry called 'Toddy Pond' has a distant relative located inland in
the Waldo County towns of Brooks and Swanville which is also called 'Toddy
Pond'. This one is a little secret with only 8 or 9 cottages on it's shores
and there is a cottage on it that is for sale! This Toddy Pond is just
150 acres with a maximum depth of 25 feet and is fed by a stream that
brings in brook trout (you will also find salmon, whitefish and pickerel
in the pond). The depth at the frontage of this cottage is about 10 or
12 feet, but the deepest place is around the small island in the middle
of the pond. This Toddy is a great place for fishing, kayaking and canoeing,
but not so much for swimming. Originally built in 1969, the 2 bedroom/1
full bathroom cottage has been completly remodeled with quality workmanship.
The 760 sq.ft offers a generous living area with a glass front propane
stove, a large dining area and even a laundry area. It is on nearly an
acre with 100' on the water, a drilled well and a traditional septic system.
Come and enjoy the peace. $219,995.

Lake St. George Cottage
Located on the western shore of this 1,000 acre clean lake about 20 minutes
west of Belfast is this 24' X 36' cottage built in 1970 on a concrete
foundation. This property consists of a double lot with land on both sides
of the camp access road which provides the needed space to have a well
and septic system on the .75 acre lot. The cottage and dock are along
the 100' of water frontage and an over-sized three-bay garage on a concrete
slab sits on the back lot. Upstairs over the garage is space for a rec
room or hobby space. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, a huge fireplace (currently
with a wood stove insert), a large deck overlooking the water and a sunny,
modern, galley kitchen. $399,000.

Sheepscot Lake Colony
Located in an intentional community of about 10 lake-front seasonal homes
on over 30 acres with building envelopes providing visual privacy from
the others, this cottage is one of my favorites. The Sheepscot Shore Colony
is among the nicest places to spend summers on the lake in this area.
The Colony Owners' Association employs a caretaker for the gardens and
road system through the Colony. This cottage is a "Kit House" because
it was ordered from Sears in the early 1960s and was delivered in numbered
pieces to be erected on site. It is seasonal because, although it has
water from a shared well, a septic system and electric baseboard heat,
it sits on concrete posts rather than a full concrete basement. (If a
new owner wanted to convert it to year-round, however, it could be done.)
Two-thirds of the 700 sq.ft. cottage is living space featuring a large
stone fireplace and two bedrooms and one-third is a deck facing the water.
Half the deck is screened-in for dining in the evening when there are
usually more mosquitoes and half the deck is open for day-time use. The
roof over the decks has several skylights to reduce the darkening effect
of so much roof. To ensure privacy, this 1.4 acre property includes 284'
of waterfront (!) consisting of two lots side-by-side; one holds the cottage
and one is never to be developed, to be kept in its natural state. $339,900.

Freedom Pond Home
Here is a modern, year-round home built in 1983 on the shore of Freedom
Pond (aka Sandy Pond) a couple miles outside the village of Freedom and
25 minutes from Belfast and Penobscot Bay. The view of the water can be
enjoyed from the sliding glass doors in the spacious family room which
leads to the huge deck. The large master bedroom suite includes an exterior
entrance and a spa bathroom. There is a wood stove to supplement the furnace
and a 3 car garage to hold your vehicles and your boat. Enjoy fishing
swimming and boating along your 500' of pond frontage...your privacy is
ensured by the 400' of road frontage and long driveway to the property.
The added bonus is the island in the pond that is included in the deed
for this property! $549,000.

Orland Contemporary Log Home
Located on the eastern side of the Penobscot River where sunset views
are best, this is a contemporary version of a traditional pine log home.
With 1,640 sq. ft. of living space there are 2 bedrooms and a loft room
plus two full baths. The south-facing wall with a view down the river
has been largely replaced by a wall of glass! Not only does this allow
a constant view, but it brings lots of light to the open dining/living
area with a cathedral ceiling. Granite counter-tops in the galley kitchen
and high-end appliances bring sophistication to meal preparation. When
the weather is right there is an expansive deck on two sides of the home
and a platform at the steps to the waterfront for entertaining or quiet
enjoyment in the out-of-doors. On the lower level of the home is a 2-car
garage and a home office. $599,500.
